What are your office and counter hours?
Our office hours are Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Our counter hours are Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 11 a.m., and 3 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.

What inspection do I need on my house when building?
An example of a general inspection is as follows:
- Footing and foundation after waterproofing
- Strapping
- Rough plumbing and water test on waste and vents
- Framing, after roof, siding and windows
- Fireplace, masonry, pre-fab, or wood stove
- Insulation
- Drywell for swimming pools
- Final, when job is complete

What is required for a building permit?
Two sets of ¼ inch scale plans, a completed building permit application, licensed contractor, signed and notarized and workers compensation insurance and survey.

What's required on the plans to submit for a building permit?
Plans are required to be ¼ inch scale; square footage is required on the plans of all items being built and needs to show existing and new for additions being applied for.

What hours can contractors work?
Contractors may work from 7 a.m. - 8:30 p.m., seven days a week.

How old can a survey be to get an updated Certificate of Occupancy?
Surveys require clearing calculations, lot coverage and building coverage and all structures reflected. Survey needs elevation from Natural Grade. If a survey reflects all items required, it can be no more than 10 years old.

What is required for a pool permit?
A staked survey is required for all pools.
8.
Where are carbon monoxide and smoke detectors required?
Smoke detectors are required in every bedroom and one in the hallway within 10 feet of any bedroom. For carbon monoxide detectors, if applicable, one on every level is required.
9.
What size plans require an architects/engineer stamp?
Size plans 1,500 square feet and bigger require a stamp.

How far back do Building Department records go?
Our records started September of 1957.

How much is an updated Certificate of Occupancy?
The Certificate of Occupancy fee is $200.
12.
How tall can a fence be before a building permit is required?
A fence can be 4 feet high around the front of the property and along the sides and 6 feet high along the sides and rear of the residence.
13.
What’s the largest structure you erect without a building permit?
Not more than 6' x 6' x 6', or 36 square feet, but all must meet accessory structure setbacks.
